This is a must sew for all levels (Beginner, Intemediate & Advance) Conclusion: I needed something cute and simple to wear to a wedding and this was perfect. There are a lot of patterns that say fast and easy but many are not. This one lived up to that expectation. If you’re a beginner like me, you have no idea where to start. So let’s talk about what you need to get started. I’ve put together a list of things I’ve found to be essential items for sewing. Hope it helps you get started. Amazon is a great source for purchasing your supplies, especially if you don't have a local craft store. 1. Sewing Machine – I found a good deal on Amazon with this Brother XL2600i. I didn’t want to spend too much on a machine not knowing if I would like sewing, so I bought this. It's working like a charm. 2. Scissors – This is a must have you need at least two pair. You need one for cutting fabric and another pair for cutting paper. NOW HEAR THIS!! NEVER, EVER, EVER CUT PAPER WITH YOUR FABRIC SCISSORS!!! (This is no joking matter) Let it be known, if you catch anyone using your fabric scissors for anything other than cutting fabric, their hands will be cut off with the same scissors they defiled…hahaha!!! Just kidding…I’m not suggesting you do that. Nor am I an advocate for violence. That would be a crime. Please understand, I do not have bail money or book money for you when you go to jail…LOL!! 3. Cutting Table – This will prove to be a very good investment. Cutting on the floor or on your dining room table is not fun. That is back breaking work and it makes you not want to sew A thing…IJS!! 4. Seam Ripper - OMG!! You are going to need this! As a beginner your stitches will not be as straight as you like and you will stitch some seams wrong (especially pants). So get a good seam ripper and check out the videos on you tube that will show you how to properly use it. These items are just helpful to have when first starting out. 5. Seam Gauge/Ruler 6. Straight Pins, Safety Pins and a Pin Cushion 7. Pattern weights (looks like plain old washers) if you prefer not to use pins in your pattern pieces 8. Marking Pens or Tracing Paper and Tracing Wheel 9. Needles, Thread and of course Fabric. There are tons of other supplies you will acquire as you grow as a seamstress but for now this will at least get you started. Thanks for reading Stitching Fit Chics! Just sitting here reminiscing about the first project I made. After I got my sewing machine, I went to Hancock Fabrics and bought some cute fabric off the clearance table. I think it was $2.00 per yard. I’m pretty sure I bought all they had. Then one day after work I went to Walmart and bought a pattern. I met this interesting lady in the fabric section. We began talking and she gave me some advice on a pattern that would be good for a beginner. It was Simplicity 9871. She was right! It was a very easy pattern. The only change was the drawstring. I didn’t do one. My daughter ended up with those as one of her gifts for Christmas. I was so proud of myself, I had to make more. So I made two more pair of these lounge pants. I know, really cute!! That’s exactly what I thought…LOL! So, if you’re wondering what your first project should be, this is a great idea because Christmas is only 4 months away and these lounge pants would make great gifts. Trust me my nieces and nephews and my grandchildren have been recipients of Auntie and Nana's new found love for the last couple years. I know I'm a little late to the party with the review on this jumpsuit, but better late than not at all. So, Never thought I would attempt to wear a jumpsuit but here I am, in a jumpsuit. When it comes to my style it has always been very simple. Never in my wildest dreams would I have done this but since I've been sewing for myself, this here girly is coming out of her shell. I must tell you, I absolutely love sewing for myself especially since I don't get to do it that often, it has really been nice. And this little beauty was a must sew. This jumpsuit was a very easy sew and the video tutorial by Eryn Shields made this very easy to put together. I love it and can't wait to sew this one again. Pattern Sizing: XS - XXL
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes it did. Were the instructions easy to follow? Very easy to follow. The video is an added bonus to making this a very easy sew. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love how easy it was to sew. Fabric Used: Light weight knit. I had it in my stash and unfortunately did not label it. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None, however I could have cut a Medium and I cut a large. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes I am definitely going to make it again. Just got to find the perfect fabric because I would like a version that’s a little more dressy.
